"Let's stop worrying what a child will become tomorrow and remember that they are SOMEBODY today who needs respect, love, guidance, encouragement and support. That is what Long Island Head Start does daily for over 2000 vulnerable, at-risk children living in Suffolk County, New York." – Carol Burnett
Why Carol's Been Nominated:
"I am nominating my mother because our family knows that she is an inspiration for us daily, even during this extremely stressful, challenging time of a cancer diagnosis in our family. She is committed and devoted to help motivate and inspire children and families in crisis in her professional interactions working for Long Island Head Start. Her journey with Long Island Head Start has spanned many years and many various positions, all with the commitment to help at-risk families through education, empowerment and engagement to break the cycle of poverty and become self-sufficient. Through collaborations with other non-profits, community partners and wonderful friends she tries to ensure that services are available and easily accessed as needed which enhances outcomes for these vulnerable children and families. She is selfless and always the first to reach out to help anyone and everyone in need. She stands up and advocates for what she believes in and through incredible energy and spirit touches everyone she meets. She is truly a special lady who deserves recognition for all that she does personally and professionally."
